Free Wire Transfer Service From Washington Mutual (Now Chase)

I had to go into my bank (Chase, used to be Washington Mutual) for a wire transfer out.

He said that Washington Mutual (now Chase) is the only bank that he knows of that offers free wire transfer (outgoing).

He also gave me a little “insider” tip and told me that by October 2009 Chase will do away with the free wire transfer on their free checking accounts.

However, if you were a Washington Mutual customer then you are pretty grandfathered in and Chase will honor the free wire transfer service.

Wire transfer fees are usually $25 per transaction so it may be wise for you to go to your local Chase branch to open up a free checking account.

NOTE: The bank I went to is in California so this free wire service may be available where you live.  Please be sure to ask your local bank to verify!

    Well they lied,
I was told that “chase bank has discretion to charge me whatever the heck they want” and that “grandfathered” does not apply any more. I am closing both personal and business accounts I have with them.
In my business, when you lie to people you lose job (not to mention respect among your pears)

    Sarah,

    I understand your sentiment.

I’m sure the top execs at the banks all know the banking industries’ dirty secrets.

They proliferated consumer credit, easy lending, and when they get in trouble they get bailed out by the US Gov’t – it’s a dirty business for all parties involved.

I don’t blame the clerk – he is just doing his job.
